Today is Sunday. The plan was to meet with friends this afternoon for fellowship and sharing. We headed over about 11:30 to visit before going to their friends together. When we arrived, we found that a friend was at the hospital. She had been ill all week, and become worse during the night. Her husband called early this morning and was so concerned that it was suggested that they go to the hospital. She has a lot of health issues, and what may have been a normal cold could easily become a serious illness for her. We decided to go to the hospital to be them.
We rode the bus to the hospital, and easily found our friends in the emergency room. She had already been checked, had a chest x-ray, was on oxygen and medication, and feeling better. She needed to spend the night, so they were waiting for a room to be ready.
Another woman arrived, who had walked to the hospital, trying not to panic due to her concern.. The nurse came to take her for another x-ray, and Les and I went to the waiting area to have tea. Our new friend was very expressive, very animated, loves our sick friend, who has helped her make a lot of positive changes in her life. She talked to me as if I knew what she was saying, and did not seem at all bothered that I could only smile at her.
N. was moved to regular room, and we all went there, along with another young couple with two little girls. N. is like an aunt to the girls, and the family was very concerned about her.
The obvious love this little group has for N. was so sweet and precious.
After a few minutes, the men went back to the waiting room with the children. I sat on a sofa with and the other three women, at N's bedside. I could not understand what they were saying, but I felt the love and the joy they had to be together there. It was a very special moment for me and I was honored to be included with these women.
The other bed in the room was occupied by a 82 year old woman who had had an aneurysm, and was dying. Family was gathered around her bed. N. had already visited with the family and found out about the situation. There was much grief, and no hope in them. She spoke to them several times, then asked if we could pray for her.
We went to the bedside and prayed in English for the woman, and for her family.
After a LATE lunch, Les and I accompanied T. and another young friend to the village to meet his grandmother, and 80 year old woman who lives alone. She wasn't in the house when we arrived, because she was working in the garden. She has a HUGE garden, with strawberries, some vegetables, and fruit trees. She does all the work herself, with only a shovel and hoe, no other equipment. I wish you could see her, but she doesn't like having her picture taken.
This picture is NOT the grandmother, but it looks a lot like her.
A very special day.
