Les has done a lot of work on the house since Christmas. We just
haven’t written anything about it, and nothing is really finished, just a lot
of projects going on. One little thing is complete, however.
There was a small hallway leading into the master bath from
the kitchen, with a ceiling right at 6 ft tall, because it was under the
staircase that had been added leading to the attic. The first few weeks we
lived in the house, we both ducked when entering that space, even though we
didn’t need to. It just felt so low.
Part of the renovation included cutting a new entry into the
bedroom.
There was a large closet that has the furnace in the master
bedroom, which had about 4 feet of open space. Les cut that closet open,
creating a hallway between the dining room and the master bedroom, then closed
off the smaller closet area and put a door into the furnace closet from the hall
(I am sure that is clear as mud, but that is not the point of todays’ story. I
will explain that and show pictures another time.)
So, the low ceiling “tunnel” which was the original entry
into the bedroom was no longer needed. We put a wall right in the middle, creating
a little nook in the bedroom, and one in the kitchen. The nook in the bedroom is now a vanity area
for me! I have little space to do my hair and make-up, sitting down, with my
make-up mirror, and all of my supplies handy.
In fact, there was a funny window from the hall into the furnace closet
that had no use. Les put shelves in that so that I can put my products right
there.
And on the kitchen side, for now, it is the perfect spot for my kitchen stool/step ladder which I need to reach to tall cabinets, but gets in the way when I am not using it.
You can see how low the ceiling is in this picture.
